Auftragsarbeit
This project was ordered by the episcopal vicar of the Austrian armed forces, Dr. Harald Tripp. With the photo project “Genesis” the artist focused for the first time on a religious subject. With his unmistakeable minimalistic and puristical style he presents the beholder the Genesis as described in the first book of Moses. He consciously leaves space for personal interpretation and discussion on the basis of three different approaches: - the natural scientific approach of “explanation”, - the philosophical approach of “understanding” and the - the religious approach of “amazement and gratitude” GENESIS is the first part and is to present in minimalistic form the seven days of Creation. It is consciously minimalistic, the development of modern times is compared to the GENESIS. The second part of the exhibition consists of photos in the style of Alfred Stieglitz and is entitled “Skies”. With a look to the clouds and the skies the artist is trying to visualize what is inapprehensible, random, unpredictable. The third part, “Jardin d’Eden”, deals with the notion of “Paradise” and the human desire for it. The photographs depict small details of the flora and its beauty. What has Man done with his world? How does he influence the rhythm of nature and what does he change intentionally or unintentionally by that? What consequences do his actions have? How do they determine the future of the planet? Many questions. Answers? The photographs 1st day The Earth is densely populated and night becomes more and more frequently day. 2nd day The sky and the earth will become one again if the climate continues to change. 3rd day Temperatures rise and water reconquers earth. Unwanted grass and weed is chemically destroyed, seeds are genetically manipulated and patented by big corporations. 4th day Solar storms increasingly influence our highly technology-driven earth. Space has been conquered by Man. Satellites and Space stations are the new companions of the celestial bodies. 5th day Water is being polluted and exploited, the birds are being hindered in their voyages in their element. 6th day Man is manipulating the legacy of evolution and will himself become creator and ruler off everything on earth. 7th day Man is rarely resting on this day and few things remain “holy” to him. For how long will this go on?
