The Station of the Cross
Wolfgang Sagmeister brings the theme of the “The stations of the cross”, which consists
in its traditional medieval form only out of seven scenes, into the present.
With his typical minimalistic approach, he deals with strictly composed black-white
photography with the recurring topics of mankind: betrayal, innocence, pain,
compassion, suffering, death and finally hope.
The photo series invites the spectator to personally reflect his own behaviour. It is up to
him to see the biblical correlation of the photographs (the evidence?) or something
more.
The pictures demonstrate, that nowadays still the biblical tradition plays a role in
everyday life. In this matter for example the picture of betrayal is a staple of 30 Euro-
coins. Wasn’t one already for less buyable?
